The shape of an egg sinker allows you to keep contact with the bottom better than other types of sinkers.

Slip a lead egg sinker on the line and thread through a hole that runs lengthwise. Egg-shaped sinkers are fairly snag-resistant. They’re able to roll along the bottom and allow fish to run with the bait. When a fish bites, it pulls the line through the sinker which stays on the bottom. The fish senses less weight this way.
